Laura Pannack delves deep into her subjects’ worlds in her documentary portrait work. She reveals their true selves, naked before the camera. In her project “Young British Naturists,” Pannack tackles this quite literally, capturing young British naturists in their environments. To fully understand her subjects and get the most out of her shots, she entered their world, photographing naked herself. “By placing myself in a vulnerable situation, the connection with my subjects was one of mutual understanding and equality.” In Pannack's images, the naturists are not defined by their nakedness, but rather, are seen as normal people with thoughts, emotions, and dreams of their own.
