Bildhalle exhibits work by photographers who divide their creative energy between their own, non-commercial activities and clients’ assignments. During the working day, they are faced with the challenge of taking photographs to a brief with clearly defined objectives for companies and the media. Once they are out on their own, without the pressure of assignments, certain recurrent themes begin to emerge over the years – motifs or constellations that drive and inspire them. This personal work of their own likewise influences their professional, commercial work and allows them to develop a singular and unmistakable aesthetic.
We are particularly interested in that magic moment at which the borderline between the work of the private artist and his public, or commercial, assignments dissolves, giving rise to the unmistakable visual imagery that inscribes itself in the observer’s memory.
Mirjam Cavegn, the founder of the Bildhalle, spent years developing books of photographs for an international photographic publisher and then worked as a photo editor for various media companies. Today, she works on photographic concepts for corporate clients.
